Voice & video calls
One-to-one calls
Start a voice or video call from the buttons in any chat header. Calls connect peer-to-peer (WebRTC) whenever the network allows, with graceful ringing, miss/decline states, and call history on the Calls page.
Group calls
Anyone in a group can start a voice or video call. Instead of an interruptive ring:
- A system message appears in the conversation, so the call is part of the chat's history.
- The header call buttons become a blue Join button for everyone while the call is live.
- The Calls page shows the live call with participant count and one-tap Join.
Group calls run on a media server (LiveKit), so quality holds up as more people join. When your camera is off, your tile shows your avatar — no black rectangles.
During a call
- Mute, camera toggle, and camera lens switching on supported devices.
- Screen-friendly layouts that adapt to participant count.
- Live call transcription (on-device speech recognition) for supported browsers — attached to your call history entry, visible only to you.
Call history
Every call — answered, missed, declined, or group — lands on the Calls page with duration and direction. Group entries record who started the call and peak participant count.
